Lamps are an immediate focal point because-hey-they light up! A lamp should be a thing of beauty. We’ve got a number of favorite lamp lines. The three I’ll mention today truly make works of art and featured proudly on our website.

Kinzig Design has been wowing our customers since we started carrrying it about 6 years ago. The lamps, all given a proper name, are made by sister-in-laws Susan and Caryn Kinzig. Susan uses gorgeous glass with metal accents on the bases. (She is also a skilled jewelry maker.) Caryn’s shades feature beautiful fabrics in wonderful structured shapes. (I think she could be a hat maker to the Queen.) See more at www.kinzigdesign.com

Luna Bella is an extremely creative company out of Florida. They make absolutely fabulous lamps, clocks, and furniture. Many of their lamps feature metal shades punctuated with holes. The light they throw out is very dramatic. Their pieces often include a mix of glass, metal widgets, beads, and other details that make them truly unique. Because of the nature of the parts they use, most pieces are of limited run.

Last, but not least, is lovely CX Design. The glass is Murano with a weathered finish that reminds me of sandy beach glass. Their fixtures are both beautiful and extremely well- made. All the shapes come in all the colors. Nice options. On a trip to Las Vegas we noticed how great they look throughout Bellagio. Not a bad customer to have! See more at www.cxny.com

]]> http://maxwellshousedc.com/2011/06/company-c/feed/ 0 Welcome to the new site http://maxwellshousedc.com/2011/06/607/ http://maxwellshousedc.com/2011/06/607/#comments Mon, 27 Jun 2011 14:51:42 +0000 admin http://maxwellshousedc.com/?p=607 Welcome to our new website!  Those of you familiar with our previous site will notice the blog section is a new addition.  I thought it might be a good opportunity to give you some background on us and our store.  Well the “us” in Maxwell’s House is Shawn and Karen Peterson (and sometimes tween daughter Anika).  We started the store back in 1994 with an empty small grocery store location, some IOU’s to family, a little bit of knowledge and the desire to create and run our own business.  Shawn’s background is in graphic design and fine art and Karen’s is retail merchanding and business so the two areas meshed pretty well.  (Also the fact that we were only a couple years out of college -be it young and foolish, or full of youthful energy- didn’t hurt.)   In the 17 years since opening; we’ve gotten married, expanded, became parents, bought the store building, paid off the IOU’s and found a nice niche for Maxwell’s in our beloved village of 250 people.   And though we’ve changed some, Maxwell’s House has stayed true to offering “innovative furnishings and goods”.  So-that’s the quickie story.  (If anyone out there ever wants to chat about what it takes to open your own store I’m always happy to give my 2 cents worth.)
